History- Southern Oregon Sales is nestled in the Cascade Mountains between the Southern Oregon and Northern California border. Here in the Rogue Valley's lush green landscape you’ll find the world’s finest pears grown. The rich clay content of the soil coupled with warm summer days and cool summer nights produce a ripe, plump, juicy and flavorful pear beyond comparison. These pears are known, world wide for their exceptional quality.

Southern Oregon Sales, Inc. is committed to continually improve the way these pears are handled so as to always deliver a quality fresh product to the market.

ANJOU- Light-green or yellow-green in color, with a sweet spicy flavor and very juicy, smooth textured flesh. The Anjou's color is not a guide to ripeness, as they don't change color as they ripen. Peak season: Sept-Dec

BARTLETT- A sweet and juicy pear with green skin which turns yellow when ripe. Bartletts hold their shape well for poaching or baking. They're popular for canning as well as snacking. Peak season: Sept-Dec.

BOSC- This pear has a long tapering neck with golden-brown skin which is highly russeted. It is sweet, juicy, and aromatic. With a fresh creamy flavor, Bosc are excellent when eaten fresh, poached or baked. This pear has a firmer texture than others. Peak season: Oct-Feb

COMICE- A very juicy, chubby pear with greenish-yellow skin often blushed with red. The premier fresh eating pear, the comice is often described as the "gift" or "dessert" pear. They are a plump, rounded pear, usually larger in size. The skins are fragile, and scuff marks show up easily, but do not harm the flesh underneath. All varieties of comice have fine textured flesh which is juicier and sweeter than other pears. Red Comice are still relatively uncommon, with a taste that is spicier, and a more durable skin. Smooth and sweet, this pear is great to eat out-of-hand. Because of its very juicy texture, it tends to lose its shape during cooking. Peak season: Sept-Feb

FORELLE- A small bell-shaped pear with a bright yellow skin blushed and dotted with red. Its tender flesh is sweet and spicy. Forelles are good in salads or for snacks. Peak season: Oct-Feb

RED BARTLETT- Sweet and juicy and shaped like regular Bartletts, this pear has a bright crimson skin. They are tasty and especially attractive in salads or fruit bowls. Peak season: Aug-Oct

SECKEL- The smallest of pear varieties, Seckel pears are red or yellow-green with heavily red-blushed skin. Seckels are well suited for snacks or pickling. Peak season: Sept-Dec
